How to convert percentage to CGPA

Divide the percentage by 9.5. An 80% score becomes approximately 8.42 CGPA, 85% becomes 8.95, and 75% becomes 7.89. The result is an estimate on a 10-point scale.

This formula is convenient for planning, but the official conversion may be different. Universities can use their own marks-to-grade-point tables, and some applications want the original percentage rather than a converted CGPA.

Rounding the result

Keep at least two decimal places while planning. Rounding too early can change a borderline result. On an official application, follow the number of decimal places requested by the institution and preserve the original percentage in any supporting document.

Applying with marks from multiple systems

Students sometimes combine school percentages, university CGPA, and converted US GPA in one application. Keep each credential on its original scale and convert only the specific result the form asks about. A secondary-school percentage should not be mixed into a university CGPA calculation, and semester marks should not be averaged without respecting credit weights.

When a portal accepts only one scale, include a brief label such as “estimated using percentage / 9.5” if there is a notes field. Uploading the transcript legend or official equivalence document gives reviewers the evidence needed to understand the number and reduces the chance that a rounded estimate is mistaken for an institutional result.
